Dieses Gen kodiert für eine Serin/Threonin-Proteinkinase. Obwohl dieses Genprodukt der Serum- und Glukokortikoid-induzierten Proteinkinase (SGK) ähnlich ist, wird dieses Gen weder durch Serum noch durch Glukokortikoide induziert. Dieses Gen wird als Reaktion auf Signale induziert, die die Phosphatidylinositol-3-Kinase aktivieren, was auch für SGK gilt. Alternatives Spleißen führt zu mehreren Transkriptvarianten.
