CHOP wurde als C/EBP-homologes Protein identifiziert, das C/EBP und LAP in einer dominant-negativen Weise hemmt. Die CHOP-Expression wird durch bestimmte zelluläre Stressoren, einschließlich Hunger, induziert, und das induzierte CHOP unterdrückt den Zellzyklusfortschritt von der G1- zur S-Phase.
