Das p21 (CIP1/WAF1)-Protein bindet an die Aktivität von Cyclin-CDK2-, -CDK1- und -CDK4/6-Komplexen und hemmt diese, wodurch es als Regulator des Zellzyklusfortschritts in der G1- und S-Phase fungiert.
