Die Kernlamina besteht aus einer zweidimensionalen Matrix von Proteinen, die sich neben der inneren Kernmembran befinden. Es wird angenommen, dass Laminproteine an der Kernstabilität, der Chromatinstruktur und der Genexpression beteiligt sind. Wirbeltierlamine bestehen aus zwei Typen, A und B. Dieses Gen kodiert eines der beiden B-Typ-Proteine, B1.
