Glycerinaldehyd-3-phosphat-Dehydrogenase (GAPDH) ist als eines der Schlüsselenzyme der Glykolyse bekannt. GAPDH wird in fast allen Geweben konstitutiv in hohen Konzentrationen exprimiert, daher sind Antikörper gegen GAPDH als Beladungskontrollen für Western Blots nützlich. Einige physiologische Faktoren, wie Hypoxie und Diabetes, erhöhen die GAPDH-Expression in bestimmten Zelltypen.
