Methyl-CpG-bindendes Protein 2 (MeCP2), dessen genaue Funktion unklar ist. Es scheint die Genaktivität (Expression) zu regulieren, indem es das Chromatin modifiziert, den Komplex aus DNA und Protein, der DNA in Chromosomen verpackt. Das MeCP2-Protein reguliert normalerweise Gene, die an der Gehirnfunktion beteiligt sind, obwohl dieses Protein im gesamten Körper vorkommt.
