Neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) ist ein neues Mitglied der Nervenwachstumsfaktor-Genfamilie, das eine wichtige Rolle bei der Entwicklung und Aufrechterhaltung des Nervensystems von Wirbeltieren spielt. NT-3 und sein Rezeptor, genannt neurotropher Tyrosinkinase-Rezeptor Typ 3 (Ntrk3; auch TrkC genannt), werden früh und während der gesamten Embryogenese exprimiert. NT-3 ist einer von fünf neurotrophen Wachstumsfaktoren, die die Entwicklung des Nervensystems durch Regulierung des neuronalen Überlebens und der Differenzierung beeinflussen. NT-3 könnte einer der aus dem Zentralnervensystem stammenden Faktoren sein, die die Proliferation von Neuralleistenzellen (NC) in vivo vermitteln. NT-3 wurde auf Dog Caninea-Chromosom 12p und Dog Caninea-Chromosom 6 kartiert.
