Interleukin-17A ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das Gen IL17A kodiert wird. Das durch dieses Gen kodierte Protein ist ein proinflammatorisches Zytokin, das von aktivierten T-Zellen produziert wird. Dieses Zytokin reguliert die Aktivitäten von NF-kappaB und Mitogen-aktivierten Proteinkinasen. Dieses Zytokin kann die Expression von IL6 und Cyclooxygenase-2 (PTGS2/COX-2) stimulieren sowie die Produktion von Stickoxid (NO) verstärken. Hohe Spiegel dieses Zytokins sind mit mehreren chronisch-entzündlichen Erkrankungen wie rheumatoider Arthritis, Psoriasis und Multipler Sklerose assoziiert.
