Affinity-purified rabbit polyclonal primary antibody against β-1,4-galactosyltransferase 1 (B4GALT1), suitable for studies of glycoprotein and glycolipid biosynthesis.
B4GALT1 is a type II Golgi-membrane galactosyltransferase that transfers galactose from UDP-galactose to glycans through β-1,4 linkages. It contributes to complex N-linked glycoprotein glycans and glycolipid carbohydrate structures. In the mammary gland, B4GALT1 partners with α-lactalbumin to form lactose synthase, which facilitates lactose production. The protein also has a soluble form generated by proteolytic processing and may participate in cell-surface recognition. Defects in this gene are associated with congenital disorders of glycosylation.
