FLOT1 (Flotillin 1) ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das FLOT1-Gen kodiert wird. Das International Radiation Hybrid Mapping Consortium kartierte das FLOT1-Gen auf Chromosom 6. Bickel et al. (1997) fanden heraus, dass Maus-Flot1 sich als residenter integraler Membranproteinkomponente von Caveolae verhält. Es kopurifizierte konsistent mit Flot2 und mit Caveolin-1 bei der Reinigung von Caveolin-reichen Membranen. Hazarika et al. (1999) fanden heraus, dass die stabile Transfektion von Flot1, das sie ESA/Flotillin-2 nannten, in COS-1-Zellen die Filopodienbildung induzierte und die epitheliale Morphologie in die von neuronalen Zellen änderte. Santamaria et al. (2005) fanden heraus, dass das in Prostatatumoren überexprimierte Gen-1 mit Flotillin-1 in Detergens-unlöslichen Membranfraktionen interagierte. Flotillin-1 kolokalisierte mit PTOV1 an der Plasmamembran und im Zellkern und trat kurz vor Beginn der S-Phase gleichzeitig mit PTOV1 in den Zellkern ein.
