TREML2 ist ein einzelner Typ-I-Transmembranprotein und enthält eine Ig-ähnliche V-Typ-Domäne (Immunglobulin-ähnlich). TREML2 ist ein Zelloberflächenrezeptor, der eine Rolle bei der angeborenen und adaptiven Immunantwort spielen könnte. TREML2 befindet sich in einem Gen-Cluster auf Chromosom 6 mit den einzelnen Ig-Variablen (IgV)-Domäne aktivierenden Rezeptoren TREM1 und TREM2, weist aber ausgeprägte strukturelle und funktionelle Eigenschaften auf.
