Das Smad nuclear-interacting protein 1 ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das SNIP1-Gen kodiert wird. Dieses Gen kodiert ein Protein, das ein Coiled-Coil-Motiv und eine C-terminale Forkhead-assoziierte (FHA)-Domäne enthält. Das kodierte Protein fungiert als transkriptioneller Coaktivator, der die c-Myc-Aktivität erhöht und die Signalübertragung von Transforming Growth Factor Beta (TGF-beta) und Nuclear Factor Kappa-B (NF-kB) hemmt. Das kodierte Protein reguliert auch die Stabilität der Cyclin-D1-mRNA und könnte eine Rolle bei der Zellproliferation und dem Fortschreiten von Krebs spielen. Mutationen in diesem Gen sind eine Ursache für psychomotorische Retardierung, Epilepsie und kraniofaziale Dysmorphien (PMRED).
