Das Double-Strand-Break-Reparaturprotein rad21-Homolog ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen vom RAD21-Gen kodiert wird. Das von diesem Gen kodierte Protein ähnelt stark dem Genprodukt von Schizosaccharomyces pombe rad21, einem Gen, das an der Reparatur von DNA-Doppelstrangbrüchen sowie an der Chromatidenkohäsion während der Mitose beteiligt ist. Dieses Protein ist ein nukleäres Phosphoprotein, das in der M-Phase des Zellzyklus hyperphosphoryliert wird. Die hochregulierte Assoziation dieses Proteins mit dem mitotischen Chromatin speziell in der Zentromerregion deutet auf seine Rolle bei der Kohäsion der Schwesterchromatiden in mitotischen Zellen hin.
