Dieses Gen kodiert ein Mitglied der Disulfid-Isomerase- (PDI) Familie von Proteinen des Endoplasmatischen Retikulums (ER), die Proteinfaltung und Thiol-Disulfid-Austauschreaktionen katalysieren. Das kodierte Protein besitzt eine N-terminale ER-Signalsequenz, zwei katalytisch aktive Thioredoxin- (TRX) Domänen, eine TRX-ähnliche Domäne und eine C-terminale ER-Retentionssequenz. Dieses Protein hemmt die Aggregation fehlgefalteter Proteine und zeigt sowohl Isomerase- als auch Chaperonaktivität.
