Mesothelin, auch bekannt als MSLN oder MPF, ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das MSLN-Gen kodiert wird. Dieses Gen ist auf 16p13.3 kartiert. Dieses Gen kodiert ein Vorläuferprotein, das in zwei Produkte gespalten wird: Megakaryozyten-Potenzierungsfaktor und Mesothelin. Der Megakaryozyten-Potenzierungsfaktor fungiert als Zytokin, das die Koloniebildung in Knochenmark-Megakaryozyten stimulieren kann. Mesothelian ist ein Glykosylphosphatidylinositol-verankertes Zelloberflächenprotein, das als Zelladhäsionsprotein fungieren kann. Dieses Protein wird in epithelialen Mesotheliomen, Ovarialkarzinomen und in bestimmten Plattenepithelkarzinomen überexprimiert.
