Malatdehydrogenase, mitochondrial, auch bekannt als Malatdehydrogenase 2, ist ein Enzym, das beim Menschen vom MDH2-Gen kodiert wird. Malatdehydrogenase katalysiert die reversible Oxidation von Malat zu Oxalacetat unter Verwendung des NAD/NADH-Kofaktorsystems im Zitronensäurezyklus. Das von diesem Gen kodierte Protein ist in den Mitochondrien lokalisiert und kann eine entscheidende Rolle im Malat-Aspartat-Shuttle spielen, das an der metabolischen Koordination zwischen Zytosol und Mitochondrien beteiligt ist. Für dieses Gen wurden mehrere Transkriptvarianten gefunden, die verschiedene Isoformen kodieren.
