SERPINB5 ist auch bekannt als PI5 oder Maspin. Maspin (mammary serine protease inhibitor) ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das SERPINB5-Gen kodiert wird. Maspin wird in der Haut, Prostata, Hoden, Darm, Zunge, Lunge und im Thymus exprimiert. Maspin ist ein Mitglied der Serpin-Superfamilie der Serinprotease-Inhibitoren.[1] Die Hauptfunktion der meisten Mitglieder dieser Familie ist die Regulierung des Proteinabbaus durch Hemmung der katalytischen Aktivität von Proteinasen. Durch diesen Wirkmechanismus regulieren Serpine eine Reihe zellulärer Prozesse, einschließlich Phagozytose, Koagulation und Fibrinolyse.
