Galectin-3-bindendes Protein ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das LGALS3BP-Gen kodiert wird. Die Galektine sind eine Familie von Beta-Galactosid-bindenden Proteinen, die an der Modulation von Zell-Zell- und Zell-Matrix-Interaktionen beteiligt sind. LGALS3BP wurde im Serum von Krebspatienten und HIV-Infizierten erhöht gefunden. Es scheint an der Immunantwort beteiligt zu sein, die mit der Zytotoxizität von natürlichen Killerzellen (NK) und Lymphokin-aktivierten Killerzellen (LAK) verbunden ist. Mittels Fluoreszenz-in-situ-Hybridisierung wurde die vollständige 90K cDNA auf Chromosom 17q25 lokalisiert. Das native Protein bindet spezifisch an ein menschliches Makrophagen-assoziiertes Lektin, bekannt als Mac-2, und bindet auch Galektin 1.
