IGFBP1, Insulin-ähnlicher Wachstumsfaktor-bindendes Protein 1, auch bekannt als Plazentaprotein 12 (PP12), ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das IGFBP1-Gen kodiert wird. Das IGFBP1-Gen hat 4 Exons und erstreckt sich über 5,9 kb. Und das IGFBP1-Gen ist mittels In-situ-Hybridisierung an 7p13-p12 lokalisiert. Dieses Gen gehört zur Familie der Insulin-ähnlichen Wachstumsfaktor-bindenden Proteine (IGFBP) und kodiert ein Protein mit einer IGFBP-Domäne und einer Typ-I-Thyroglobulin-Domäne. Das Protein bindet sowohl Insulin-ähnliche Wachstumsfaktoren (IGFs) I als auch II und zirkuliert im Plasma. Die Bindung dieses Proteins verlängert die Halbwertszeit der IGFs und verändert ihre Wechselwirkung mit Zelloberflächenrezeptoren. Alternative transkriptionelle Spleißvarianten, die verschiedene Isoformen kodieren, wurden charakterisiert.
