Granzym K ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen vom GZMK-Gen kodiert wird. Dieses Genprodukt gehört zu einer Gruppe verwandter Serinproteasen aus den zytoplasmatischen Granula zytotoxischer Lymphozyten. Zytolytische T-Lymphozyten (CTL) und natürliche Killerzellen (NK-Zellen) teilen die bemerkenswerte Fähigkeit, spezifische Zielzellen zu erkennen, zu binden und zu lysieren. Es wird angenommen, dass sie ihren Wirt schützen, indem sie Zellen lysieren, die "Nicht-Eigen"-Antigene auf ihrer Oberfläche tragen, meist Peptide oder Proteine, die aus einer Infektion durch intrazelluläre Pathogene resultieren. Das hier beschriebene Protein besitzt keine Konsensussequenzen für die N-Glykosylierung, die in anderen Granzymen vorhanden sind.
