Wachstumshormon (GH) ist auf 17q22-q24 kartiert. Menschliches Wachstumshormon hat eine Molekularmasse von 22.005 und enthält 191 Aminosäurereste mit 2 Disulfidbrücken. Ratten-GH weist eine 98%ige Aminosäuresequenzhomologie mit Mäusen auf. Es bindet zwei Rezeptormoleküle und induziert dadurch die Signaltransduktion durch Rezeptordimerisierung. Bei hohen Konzentrationen wirkt GH als Antagonist, da die Affinitäten an den jeweiligen Bindungsstellen stark unterschiedlich sind.
