Gamma-Tubulin ist eine universelle Komponente von Mikrotubuli-organisierenden Zentren, die für die Kernteilung und Mikrotubuli-Assemblierung in Aspergillus nidulans essentiell ist. TUBG1 wurde innerhalb von 20 kb von TUBG2 bei 17q21 kartiert. Gamma-Tubulin ist ein geringfügiges Protein, das weniger als 1 % des Niveaus von Alpha- und Beta-Tubulin ausmacht und auf das Zentrosom beschränkt ist. Gamma-Tubulin ist in Drosophila melanogaster und Homo sapiens vorhanden.
