Forkhead-Box-Protein G1 ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das FOXG1-Gen kodiert wird. Dieser Locus kodiert ein Mitglied der Forkhead-Transkriptionsfaktor-Familie. Das kodierte Protein, das als Transkriptionsrepressionator fungiert, wird während der Gehirnentwicklung stark in neuronalen Geweben exprimiert. Mutationen an diesem Locus wurden mit dem Rett-Syndrom und einem vielfältigen Spektrum von neurologischen Entwicklungsstörungen in Verbindung gebracht, die als Teil des FOXG1-Syndroms definiert sind. Dieses Gen ist in vielen Krebsarten fehlreguliert und ist das Ziel mehrerer microRNAs, die die Proliferation von Tumorzellen regulieren.
