Das INT-2 Proto-Onkogen-Protein, auch als FGF-3 bekannt, ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das FGF3-Gen kodiert wird. Das von diesem Gen kodierte Protein gehört zur Familie der Fibroblasten-Wachstumsfaktoren (FGF). FGF-Familienmitglieder besitzen breite mitogene und zellüberlebensfördernde Aktivitäten und sind an einer Vielzahl biologischer Prozesse beteiligt, einschließlich Embryonalentwicklung, Zellwachstum, Morphogenese, Gewebereparatur, Tumorwachstum und Invasion. Dieses Gen wurde aufgrund seiner Ähnlichkeit mit dem Maus-Fgf3/Int-2 identifiziert, einem Proto-Onkogen, das bei viral induzierten Mammakarzinomen bei der Maus aktiviert wird. Eine häufige Amplifikation dieses Gens wurde in menschlichen Tumoren gefunden, was für die neoplastische Transformation und das Tumorprogressions wichtig sein könnte. Studien an ähnlichen Genen bei Maus und Huhn deuteten auf eine Rolle bei der Bildung des Innenohrs hin.
