Kollagen, Typ II, Alpha 1, auch bekannt als COL2A1, ist ein menschliches Gen, das das Hauptkollagen ist, das von Chondrozyten synthetisiert wird. COL2A1 ist auf 12q13.11 kartiert. Dieses Gen kodiert die Alpha-1-Kette von Typ II Kollagen, einem fibrillären Kollagen, das im Knorpel und im Glaskörper des Auges vorkommt. Mutationen in diesem Gen sind verbunden mit Achondrogenese, Chondrodysplasie, früh einsetzender familiärer Osteoarthritis, SED congenita, Langer-Saldino Achondrogenese, Kniest-Dysplasie, Stickler-Syndrom Typ I und Spondyloepimetaphysäre Dysplasie Strudwick-Typ. Darüber hinaus sind Defekte bei der Verarbeitung von Chondrocalcin, einem Calcium-bindenden Protein, das das C-Propeptid dieses Kollagenmoleküls ist, ebenfalls mit Chondrodysplasie verbunden.
