Protein AMBP ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das AMBP-Gen kodiert wird. Dieses Gen kodiert ein Fusionsprotein, das eine proteolytische Prozessierung durchläuft, um zwei reife Proteine zu erzeugen: Alpha-1-Mikroglobulin (A1m) ist ein Häm-bindendes Plasmaglykoprotein der Lipocalin-Superfamilie von Proteinen, die an hydrophobe Moleküle binden, während Bikunin zur Superfamilie der Kunitz-Typ-Proteaseinhibitoren gehört. Transgene Mäuse, denen spezifisch Bikunin, aber nicht A1m fehlt, zeigen weibliche Unfruchtbarkeit und eine erhöhte Empfindlichkeit gegenüber Lungenmetastasierung.

AMBP (alpha-1-microglobulin/bikunin precursor) is a secreted precursor processed into alpha-1-microglobulin (A1M), an antioxidative lipocalin, and bikunin, a serine-protease inhibitor. It is studied in extracellular oxidative-stress control, protease regulation and inter-alpha-inhibitor biology.
Biological function: Proteolytic processing of AMBP produces two functionally distinct proteins. Alpha-1-microglobulin binds and scavenges heme and reactive radicals and contributes to protection from oxidative tissue damage. Bikunin inhibits several serine proteases and contributes to inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor family complexes in extracellular protease regulation.
