Dieses Gen kodiert ein Mitglied der Serpin-Proteinfamilie, einer Gruppe von Proteinen, die Serinproteasen hemmen. Das kodierte intrazelluläre Glykoprotein ist am Endoplasmatischen Retikulum lokalisiert. Dieses Gen ist ein polymorphes Pseudogen, wobei das nicht-funktionale Allel in einigen Populationen vorherrschend ist.
