Biological function: CD80 / B7-1 provides an important costimulatory signal for T-lymphocyte activation by acting as a ligand for CD28, augmenting MHC/T-cell receptor signalling. CD80 also binds CTLA-4, which can oppose CD28-mediated priming and limit T-cell activation, placing CD80 at a key immune costimulation and checkpoint interface.
