Research target context

AKT3AKT serine/threonine kinase 3

View target guide

AKT3 encodes AKT serine/threonine kinase 3, whose reviewed human protein is RAC-gamma serine/threonine-protein kinase (protein kinase B gamma/PKB gamma). It is one of the three AKT kinases that couple growth-factor signalling to phosphorylation programmes controlling cell survival, growth, metabolism and proliferation.

Biological function: AKT3 is a serine/threonine kinase activated within PI3K-AKT signalling. Reviewed UniProt describes AKT3 as phosphorylating downstream substrates that regulate metabolism, proliferation, survival, growth and angiogenesis. Compared with AKT1 and AKT2, AKT3 is less extensively characterised and has particularly important roles in brain development.
