L'interleukine 16 (IL-16) est une cytokine libérée par diverses cellules (y compris les lymphocytes et certaines cellules épithéliales) qui a été caractérisée comme un chimioattractant pour certaines cellules immunitaires exprimant la molécule de surface cellulaire CD4. Elle est cartographiée en 15q25.1. L'IL-16 a été initialement décrite comme un facteur capable d'attirer les lymphocytes T activés chez l'homme. Elle était auparavant appelée facteur chimioattractant des lymphocytes (LCF), et l'augmentation de la stimulation de l'IL16 par le CCR5 joue un rôle dans la régulation du recrutement et de l'activation des cellules Th1 sur les sites d'inflammation.
