L'ectodysplasine-A est une protéine qui, chez l'homme, est codée par le gène EDA. Elle est cartographiée en Xq13.1. La protéine codée par ce gène est une protéine membranaire de type II qui peut être clivée par la furine pour produire une forme sécrétée. La protéine codée, qui appartient à la famille du facteur de nécrose tumorale, agit comme un homotrimère et pourrait être impliquée dans la signalisation cellule-cellule pendant le développement des organes ectodermiques. Les défauts de ce gène sont une cause de dysplasie ectodermique, anhidrotique, également connue sous le nom de dysplasie ectodermique hypohidrotique liée à l'X.
