La CPT1B est située sur 22q13.33. La protéine codée par ce gène, un membre de la famille de la carnitine/choline acétyltransférase, est l'enzyme régulatrice du taux de la voie de la bêta-oxydation des acides gras à longue chaîne dans les mitochondries musculaires. Cette enzyme est nécessaire au transport net des acyl-CoA d'acides gras à longue chaîne du cytoplasme vers les mitochondries. Plusieurs variants de transcrits codant différentes isoformes ont été trouvés pour ce gène, et des transcrits en lecture sont exprimés à partir du locus en amont qui incluent des exons de ce gène.
