Acyl-CoA synthetase long chain family member 4 (ACSL4), also known as FACL4 and long-chain-fatty-acid--CoA ligase 4, activates long-chain fatty acids to acyl-CoA esters. Human ACSL4 maps to NCBI Gene 2182 and reviewed UniProtKB O60488; this record links the verified target to related ABMIUM catalogue products.

Biological function: ACSL4 catalyses activation of long-chain fatty acids to fatty acyl-CoA esters for cellular lipid synthesis and fatty-acid degradation. NCBI and reviewed UniProt describe a preference for arachidonate; UniProt also identifies ACSL4 as a ferroptosis activator by generating activated polyunsaturated-fatty-acid substrates that can undergo lipid peroxidation.
