OSM (Oncostatin M) ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen vom OSM-Gen kodiert wird. OSM ist ein pleiotropes Zytokin, das zur Interleukin-6-Gruppe der Zytokine gehört. Das OSM-Gen ist auf 22q12.2 kartiert. Von diesen Zytokinen ähnelt es in Struktur und Funktion am ehesten dem Leukämie-Inhibitor-Faktor (LIF). Die Behandlung mit rekombinantem OSM führt zur Hemmung der Proliferation und zu Veränderungen der zellulären Morphologie einer Reihe von Tumorzelllinien, die aus einer Vielzahl von Gewebetypen stammen. OSM signalisiert über Zelloberflächenrezeptoren, die das Protein gp130 enthalten. Der Typ-I-Rezeptor besteht aus gp130 und LIFR, der Typ-II-Rezeptor aus gp130 und OSMR.
