C-reaktives Protein (CRP) ist ein wichtiger Akut-Phase-Reaktant, der hauptsächlich in den Leberhepatozyten synthetisiert wird. Es besteht aus 5 identischen Untereinheiten mit einem Molekulargewicht von 21.500. CRP vermittelt Aktivitäten, die mit der präimmunen unspezifischen Wirtsresistenz verbunden sind. CRP zeigt die stärkste Assoziation mit kardiovaskulären Ereignissen. Es ist auf der Oberfläche von etwa 4 % der normalen peripheren Blutlymphozyten nachweisbar. Der Akut-Phase-Reaktant CRP wird in der Leber produziert.
