Dieses Gen kodiert ein ribosomales Protein, das ein Bestandteil der 40S-Untereinheit ist. Das Protein gehört zur S17E-Familie der ribosomalen Proteine und befindet sich im Zytoplasma. Mutationen in diesem Gen verursachen die Diamond-Blackfan-Anämie 4. Alternatives Spleißen dieses Gens führt zu mehreren Transkriptvarianten.
