Hintergrund

Dieses Gen kodiert ein Mitglied einer Familie von Fettsäure-Transportproteinen, die am Transport langkettiger Fettsäuren durch die Plasmamembran beteiligt sind. Dieses Protein wird in hohen Mengen auf der apikalen Seite reifer Enterozyten im Dünndarm exprimiert und scheint der Haupt-Fettsäuretransporter in Enterozyten zu sein. Klinische Studien legen dieses Gen als Kandidatengen für das Insulinresistenzsyndrom nahe. Mutationen in diesem Gen wurden mit dem Ichthyosis-Prematurity-Syndrom in Verbindung gebracht.
