Expression systemBeim Menschen sind die höchsten Expressionsniveaus in peripheren mononukleären Zellen, Milz und Thymus zu beobachten, während niedrige Expressionsniveaus in Hoden, Uterus, Kolon und Dünndarm gefunden werden, jedoch nicht in anderen untersuchten Geweben wie Prostata, Herz, Gehirn und Leber (PubMed:9235916). Isoform 2 wird in normalem Thymus-, Lungen- und Milzgewebe exprimiert und ist in geringen Mengen in normalen Lysaten aus Kolon- und Ovarialbiopsien nachweisbar, in erhöhten Mengen in Lysaten aus kolorektalen Tumoren und in einigen Ovarialtumoren reichlich exprimiert (auf Proteinebene). Sowohl Isoform 1 als auch Isoform 2 sind weit verbreitet. Isoform 1 wird überwiegend in Leukozyten exprimiert.

Hintergrund

Phosphoinositid-3-Kinasen (PI3Ks) phosphorylieren Inositol-Lipide und sind an der Immunantwort beteiligt. Das von diesem Gen kodierte Protein ist eine Klasse-I-PI3K, die hauptsächlich in Leukozyten vorkommt. Wie andere Klasse-I-PI3Ks (p110-alpha, p110-beta und p110-gamma) bindet das kodierte Protein p85-Adapterproteine und GTP-gebundenes RAS. Im Gegensatz zu den anderen Klasse-I-PI3Ks phosphoryliert dieses Protein jedoch sich selbst und nicht das p85-Protein. [bereitgestellt von RefSeq, Jul 2010]
