Hintergrund

Das von diesem Gen kodierte Protein ist ein Enzym, das sowohl Hydrolase- als auch Aminopeptidase-Aktivitäten aufweist. Die Hydrolase-Aktivität wird im letzten Schritt der Biosynthese von Leukotrien B4, einem entzündungsfördernden Mediator, eingesetzt. Es wurde gezeigt, dass die Aminopeptidase-Aktivität Prolin-Glycin-Prolin (PGP) abbaut, einen neutrophilen Chemoattraktor und Biomarker für chronisch obstruktive Lungenerkrankungen (COPD). Für dieses Gen wurden mehrere Transkriptvarianten gefunden, die verschiedene Isoformen kodieren. [bereitgestellt von RefSeq, Sep 2015]
