Hintergrund

Die MAPEG-Familie (Membran-assoziierte Proteine im Eicosanoid- und Glutathion-Stoffwechsel) umfasst eine Reihe menschlicher Proteine, von denen mehrere an der Produktion von Leukotrienen beteiligt sind. Dieses Gen kodiert ein Enzym, das den ersten Schritt bei der Biosynthese von Cysteinyl-Leukotrienen katalysiert, potenten biologischen Verbindungen, die aus Arachidonsäure gewonnen werden. Leukotriene wurden als Mediatoren von Anaphylaxie und entzündlichen Zuständen wie menschlichem Bronchialasthma identifiziert. Dieses Protein lokalisiert sich an der Kernhülle und dem angrenzenden endoplasmatischen Retikulum. [bereitgestellt von RefSeq, Juli 2008]
