LY6G5C gehört zu einem Cluster von Leukozyten-Antigen-6 (LY6)-Genen, die sich in der Haupt-Histokompatibilitätskomplex (MHC) Klasse III Region auf Chromosom 6 befinden. Mitglieder der LY6-Superfamilie enthalten typischerweise 70 bis 80 Aminosäuren, darunter 8 bis 10 Cysteine. Die meisten LY6-Proteine sind durch einen Glykosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-Anker an die Zelloberfläche gebunden, der direkt an der Signaltransduktion beteiligt ist (Mallya et al., 2002 [PubMed 12079290]).[bereitgestellt von OMIM, März 2008].
