Hintergrund

Das von diesem Gen kodierte Protein ist ein Mitglied der MAP-Kinase-Familie. MAP-Kinasen fungieren als Integrationspunkt für multiple biochemische Signale und sind an einer Vielzahl von zellulären Prozessen wie Proliferation, Differenzierung, Transkriptionsregulation und Entwicklung beteiligt. Diese Kinase wird durch verschiedene Zellstimuli aktiviert und zielt auf spezifische Transkriptionsfaktoren ab, wodurch sie die frühe Genexpression als Reaktion auf Zellstimuli vermittelt. Die Aktivierung dieser Kinase durch Tumornekrosefaktor alpha (TNF-alpha) wird als erforderlich für die TNF-alpha-induzierte Apoptose befunden. Diese Kinase ist auch an der UV-Strahlung-induzierten Apoptose beteiligt, von der angenommen wird, dass sie mit dem Cytochrom-c-vermittelten Zelltodweg zusammenhängt.
