Hintergrund

Die Familie des eukaryotischen Initiationsfaktors-4A (eIF4A) besteht aus 3 eng verwandten Proteinen: EIF4A1, EIF4A2 und EIF4A3. Diese Faktoren sind für die Bindung von mRNA an 40S-ribosomale Untereinheiten erforderlich. Der eukaryotische Initiationsfaktor (eIF)-Komplex 2 bildet einen ternären Komplex mit GTP und der Initiator-Met-tRNA – dieser Prozess wird durch Guanin-Nukleotid-Austausch und Phosphorylierung reguliert und dient als das wichtigste regulatorische Element des Engpasses der Proteinexpression.
