S100-Kalzium-bindendes Protein A12 (S100A12) ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das S100A12-Gen kodiert wird. Das durch dieses Gen kodierte Protein ist ein Mitglied der S100-Proteinfamilie, die 2 EF-Hand-Kalziumbindemotive enthält. S100-Proteine sind im Zytoplasma und/oder Zellkern einer Vielzahl von Zellen lokalisiert und an der Regulation einer Reihe zellulärer Prozesse wie Zellzyklusprogression und Differenzierung beteiligt. S100-Gene umfassen mindestens 13 Mitglieder, die als Cluster auf Chromosom 1q21 lokalisiert sind. Es wird angenommen, dass dieses Protein an spezifischen kalziumabhängigen Signaltransduktionswegen beteiligt ist und seine regulatorische Wirkung auf zytoskelettale Komponenten verschiedene Neutrophilenaktivitäten modulieren kann. Das Protein enthält ein antimikrobielles Peptid, das antibakterielle Aktivität besitzt.
