Lumican, auch bekannt als LUM, ist ein extrazelluläres Matrixprotein, das beim Menschen durch das LUM-Gen auf Chromosom 12 kodiert wird. Lumican ist ein wichtiges Keratansulfat-Proteoglykan der Hornhaut, ist aber ubiquitär in den meisten mesenchymalen Geweben des Körpers verteilt. Lumican ist an der Organisation von Kollagenfibrillen und dem zirkumferenziellen Wachstum, der Hornhauttransparenz sowie der Migration von Epithelzellen und der Gewebereparatur beteiligt. Die Hornhauttransparenz ist durch die exakte Ausrichtung der Kollagenfasern durch Lumican (und Keratocan) im intrafibrillären Raum möglich.
