Integrin alpha-6, auch VLA-6 oder ITGA6B genannt, ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das ITGA6-Gen kodiert wird. Dieses Gen ist auf 2q31.1 kartiert. Das ITGA6-Proteinprodukt ist die Integrin-Alpha-Kette alpha 6. Integrine sind integrale Zelloberflächenproteine, die aus einer Alpha-Kette und einer Beta-Kette bestehen. Eine gegebene Kette kann sich mit mehreren Partnern zu verschiedenen Integrinen verbinden. Zum Beispiel kann sich alpha 6 mit beta 4 im Integrin namens TSP180 oder mit beta 1 im Integrin VLA-6 verbinden. Integrine sind bekannt dafür, an der Zelladhäsion sowie an der zelloberflächenvermittelten Signalübertragung teilzunehmen. Integrin alpha-6/beta-1 ist ein Rezeptor für Laminin auf Blutplättchen. Integrin alpha-6/beta-4 ist ein Rezeptor für Laminin in Epithelzellen und spielt eine kritische strukturelle Rolle im Hemidesmosom.
