Interleukin-17A ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen vom IL17A-Gen kodiert wird. Das von diesem Gen kodierte Protein ist ein entzündungsförderndes Zytokin, das von aktivierten T-Zellen produziert wird. Dieses Zytokin reguliert die Aktivitäten von NF-kappaB und mitogen-aktivierten Proteinkinasen. Dieses Zytokin kann die Expression von IL6 und Cyclooxygenase-2 (PTGS2/COX-2) stimulieren sowie die Produktion von Stickoxid (NO) verstärken. Hohe Spiegel dieses Zytokins sind mit mehreren chronisch entzündlichen Erkrankungen wie rheumatoider Arthritis, Psoriasis und Multipler Sklerose verbunden.
