Der Fibroblasten-Wachstumsfaktor 23 oder FGF23 ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das FGF23-Gen kodiert wird. Dieses Gen kodiert ein Mitglied der Fibroblasten-Wachstumsfaktor-Proteinfamilie, die breite mitogene und zellüberlebensfördernde Aktivitäten besitzt und an einer Vielzahl biologischer Prozesse beteiligt ist. Das Produkt dieses Gens reguliert die Phosphathomöostase und den Phosphattransport in der Niere. Das vollumfängliche, funktionelle Protein kann durch Spaltung in N-terminale und C-terminale Ketten deaktiviert werden. Eine Mutation dieser Spaltstelle verursacht autosomal dominante hypophosphatämische Rachitis (ADHR). Mutationen in diesem Gen sind auch mit hyperphosphatämischer familiärer tumoraler Kalzinose (HFTC) assoziiert.
