Der eukaryotische Translationsinitiationsfaktor 5 ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen durch das EIF5-Gen kodiert wird. Der eukaryotische Translationsinitiationsfaktor-5 (EIF5) interagiert mit dem 40S-Initiationskomplex, um die Hydrolyse von gebundenem GTP zu fördern, wobei die 60S-ribosomale Untereinheit gleichzeitig an den 40S-Initiationskomplex bindet. Der resultierende funktionelle 80S-ribosomale Initiationskomplex ist dann aktiv in der Peptidyltransfer und Kettenverlängerung.
