Ectodysplasin-A ist ein Protein, das beim Menschen vom EDA-Gen kodiert wird. Es ist auf Xq13.1 kartiert. Das von diesem Gen kodierte Protein ist ein Typ-II-Membranprotein, das durch Furin gespalten werden kann, um eine sezernierte Form zu erzeugen. Das kodierte Protein, das zur Tumornekrosefaktor-Familie gehört, fungiert als Homotrimer und könnte an der Zell-Zell-Signalübertragung während der Entwicklung ektodermaler Organe beteiligt sein. Defekte in diesem Gen sind eine Ursache für ektodermale Dysplasie, anhidrotisch, auch bekannt als X-chromosomale hypohidrotische ektodermale Dysplasie.
